Hot Honey Butter Toast with Tinned Fish

Crispy honey-butter toast but make it savory. We can't get enough of these.


  • 3 slices shokupan or brioche bread
  • 3 Tbs butter
  • 3 Tbs brown sugar
  • 2 Tbs honey
  • 1 Tbs Bullwhip Kelp & Piri Piri Hot Sauce
  • Sardine Tails (or sub other tinned fish of choice)
  • Tomatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Dill  
  • Sea Salt
  • Lemon


  1. Preheat oven to 350 F and line a sheet pan with parchment paper. 
  2. Mix the butter, sugar, honey, and hot sauce in a bowl until it's fully combined and smooth.
  3. Cut the crust off your bread.
  4. Spread the honey butter on all sides of the bread including the edges, and place on the sheet pan. 
  5. Bake for 10 - 15 minutes until the butter mixture is light brown and caramelized. Flip each slice and bake for an additional 10 minutes.  
  6. Remove bread from the oven and place on a cooling rack, let it cool until the bread becomes crispy. 
  7. On top of each toast, place tomatoes and sardines. Drizzle with olive and a splash of hot sauce. Sprinkle with flaked sea salt, fresh dill, and a squeeze of fresh lemon.
  8. Enjoy!
